Senior Platform Engineer

What you will be doing 

As an Senior Platform Engineer, you’ll be hands-on with designing, building, and running secure, reliable cloud platforms on Microsoft Azure. You’ll get stuck into day‑to‑day cloud infrastructure and automation work, helping keep things running smoothly and efficiently.

You’ll work closely with teams across the business to design and deliver solutions that make sense for both the organisation and its security needs. Above all, this role is about taking pride in a well‑run cloud environment, finding better ways of doing things, and continually improving how the platform supports the business.

What we are looking for

We’re looking for a technically sound Junior Platform Engineer who wants to make a step up into a more senior role in modern cloud-based infrastructure, combining Technical skill and problem solving skills. This will be a well supported role by deep technical leadership from SME Team leads helping to the skill transition to a more senior role.

Skills & Competencies:

The breadth & depth of knowledge as a Platform engineer is considerable, so we have divided this into Fundamentals (expected of all viable candidates) and Highly desirable.

Fundamentals

• Microsoft Platform Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure (networking,compute, storage, security),

• Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune, Defender).
• Deep familiarity with AAD / ENTRA ID, Security groups (access reviews, lifecycle workflows, PIM).
• Familiarity with scripting, Automation with PowerShell and Windows & Linux Administration troubleshooting.
• AZ-104 as a minimum qualification

Highly desirable 

• Additional Experience with designing, deploying, configuring and securing any of the following;

• Azure Specific implementations of:

infrastructure solutions, Virtual Machines (VMs), Kubernetes Service (AKS), SQL servers, Front Door, Virtual WAN architecture, AZ Firewall, AZ networking components (across cloud and hybrid environments), AZ failover testing.

• App Services and Container Apps, Application Gateway and WAF policies
• Image management, scaling strategies, and workload optimisation.

• Virtual Networks (VNets), VNet Peering, and Network Security Groups (NSGs), VPN and hybrid connectivity (Site-to-Site, Point-to-Site)
• DNS, DHCP, Linux Servers, and configuration management using Microsoft Defender
• Working knowledge of CI/CD tools, infrastructure pipelines, and automation workflows
